Steak & Mushrooms

Ingredients:

For the New York Strip Steak:

  • 2 New York Strip steaks (about 1 inch thick)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme), chopped (optional)

For the Broccoli and Cheese:

  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Portabella Mushrooms:

  • 4 large portabella mushrooms, cleaned and stems removed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the New York Strip Steaks:

  • Take the steaks out of the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Season the steaks generously with salt and black pepper.
  • In an oven-safe skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  • Add the steaks to the hot skillet and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  • Optionally, add minced garlic and fresh herbs to the pan.
  • Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and roast for about 5-7 minutes for medium-rare. Adjust the time based on your desired doneness.
  • Let the steaks rest for a few minutes before slicing.

2. Make the Broccoli and Cheese:

  • Steam or boil the broccoli until it's just tender. Drain and set aside.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
  • Gradually add milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
  • Once the sauce thickens, add shredded cheddar cheese and stir until melted.
  • Season with salt and black pepper.
  • Add the cooked broccoli to the cheese sauce and stir until well-coated.

3. Prepare the Portabella Mushrooms:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush the cleaned portabella mushrooms with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.
  • Place the mushrooms on a baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle minced garlic over the mushrooms.
  • Roast in the oven for about 15-20 minutes until the mushrooms are tender.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving and a tortilla.

4. Serve:

  • Plate the sliced New York Strip steaks alongside the broccoli and cheese and portabella mushrooms.
